Creative Skectchbooking Class
by Pamela Garrison
I always look forward to scrolling through my Instagram feed and finding one of Pam Garrisons inspiring drawings. So when I discovered she was hosting her very own class I was eager to head over to Creativebug to check it out. I was so excited I didn't even bother getting out my sketchbook. I grabbed my JeDori, some paints, and a paint brush and let the fun begin.
This is my first class on Creativebug and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt like I was sitting right there with Pam Garrison painting away the afternoon.
The first step: close your eyes and let your pen wander... Don't think, don't plan, just let your instincts guide you...
I have never tried closing my eyes and taking a pen to paper, just letting the pen glide over the paper. While I was doing it I was thinking this is going to look horrible but when I opened my eyes I was surprised to see what I had drawn. This was actually a very relaxing exercise and one that you can do just about anywhere.
Now comes the fun part of picking a color palette and painting! I used the acrylic paint I had on hand.
This was a relaxing way to experiment with different color combinations that I might not normally use. The beauty of doing these little sketches is you can experiment and not worry about making it look pretty. It's not to please anyone but yourself.
The final step is doodling! After the paint dried I went back over it and added in random doodles.
As a small business owner it's hard to find time for creating and design while trying to keep up with orders and the actual running of a business. I'm always turning new ideas and designs around in my mind but playing with paints is an essential part of the process too. This class is the perfect excuse to give myself a little design time and creative freedom.
